The government is set to field its top ministers for the crucial Operation Sindoor debate in both Houses of Parliament, according to sources.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, and BJP President J.P. Nadda are expected to participate in the discussions. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is also likely to make a key intervention during the proceedings, the sources said.
Additionally, senior leaders from allied parties will be called on to speak, ensuring a coordinated and robust response from the ruling alliance.
The debate is scheduled over three days, with a total of 16 hours allocated across both Houses.
Meanwhile, a resolution highlighting the success of Operation Sindoor Healing is expected to be moved and adopted in the Lok Sabha next Wednesday.
Earlier, Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju confirmed that Operation Sindoor will be debated for 16 hours in the Lok Sabha on Monday (July 28) and another 16 hours in the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday (July 29).
“All issues cannot be discussed together,” Rijiju told reporters. “The opposition has raised several matters, like the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) in Bihar and others. We have told them that Operation Sindoor will be discussed first. We will decide which issues will be discussed after that Operation Sindoor will be debated for 16 hours in the Lok Sabha on Monday (July 28) and for 16 hours in the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday (July 29).”
Opposition parties have been demanding debates on several issues, including the Pahalgam terror attack, Operation Sindoor, and US President Donald Trump’s repeated claims of brokering a ceasefire between India and Pakistan. They have also sought Prime Minister Modi’s presence during the discussion. Since the Prime Minister was abroad on a two-nation visit earlier this week, the debate has been scheduled for next week.
The opposition has further demanded time to raise concerns over the SIR exercise in Bihar and the government’s foreign policy approach.
Parliament has witnessed repeated adjournments since the monsoon session began on July 21, with both Houses transacting little business. In a bid to break the impasse, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla convened an all-party meeting on Friday.
Before adjourning the House amid ongoing protests, Birla urged opposition MPs to allow the House to function normally and criticised the use of banners inside the chamber.
“Come, there will be discussion to end stalemate. There will also be representatives from the government…If there is disagreement, it should be expressed as per House norms,” he said.
